electronic gimbals are better than nothing
but they don't do the same job as steadicams. It's not a snobbery thing - it's to do with the length of travel you can get with the mounts, and their responses.
Back of a fag packet calculation suggests a modern gimbel mount on a steadicam is close to the holy grail.

Yes holding it steady whilst maximising the travel is always important, if you can keep going for a few minutes there's always a happy finish. Anyway not really sure about Segway steady cams these days as they seem to have an affinity for my fellow country man usain bolt....
