my 4 year son has aspergers and is numbers mad. He's figured out how to use youtube and just watches videos of people counting. At least this is funky so i can enjoy it too haha

THere's a new Ti calculator for kids in France
I don't think you have the same in the UK.
Anyway, they are aimed at 8 and above, but your kid might love it.

Amongst other things, shows the symbols (+- etc) and your child can type a question:
2-1=58 and the actuator will answer "OUI" or "NON".
Don't underestimate kids, I was fooling around with my dad's Scientific Casio when I was 6.
Would probably be running Google by now if I had been given instructions instead of being directed to watch Scooby Doo.
