The best acting, lighting and make up can elevate your story and look totally natural on film. However the best CGI can still stick out like a sore thumb. In the background it's fine but CGI characters front and centre are still in that uncanny valley and don't look real to me.

that's how I feel about people in prosthetic makeup right in front of the camera
the skin is usually rubbery or heavily made up, it's as bad as uncanny valley cg

I believe that the best Hollywood prosthetics are better than the best Hollywood CGI. I still don't think computers can truly replicate real light falling on real surfaces. Not yet anyway.
