Does the existence of, say, ambulances, encourage people to do stupid shit and hurt themselves?
Ooh maybe we should ban seatbelts because they encourage people to drive dangerously?

Ambulances don't seem to encourage people across motorways, no. However the existence of rescue boats mooching about in the Med must, at the very, very least, provide hope to those planning on making the crossing that if it all goes wrong salvation is not out if the question. Sadly, in reality it was out of the question for over a thousand this year alone.

How DARE we give hope to people fleeing war zones
Have you really, honestly, ever spent 10 minutes listening to an actual refugee and asked them about why they left?
Or is it just easier to complain about humanitarian efforts and just let the fuckers drown because it's their own fault?

Just some numbers for the debate.
data2.unhcr.org/en/situations/mediterranean
So 14.1% actually fleeing a warzone.
The rest looking for a better life economically or socially.
Can't blame anyone for wanting that but not a war zone.
Just also point out that they're using this dangerous route because the EU made a deal with Turkey to block a safer land crossing.
On those leaving warzones.
Russia has been accused (By NATO) of weaponising migration in order to destabilise Europe. Supposed reason for the targeting of civilians with barrel bombs and chemical weapons. Has no strategic value but gets them leaving the country.

A woman from Iraq called Nabeela worked for me for over five years.
I gave her the job despite her poor English and trained her up. I even went to her flat a couple of times. How many refugees have you literally spent hours with?

Well, I draw the line at marrying them to get them passports, but good for you.

so desperate hungry familes who have possibly endured weeks and months
of dangerous uncertain travel facilitated by traffickers who have most likely taken most of their life savings are going to stand on the beach (assuming it's daytime) look out at the Med and say: "nah fuck it - there's no other boats around, I'm sure the nice traffickers will give us our money back, maybe we'll go tomorrow".
