This is a normal post It got me thinking about series and patterns in mathematics
Say the series 2, 5, 10, 20, 40, 80...
What is the rule/formula to get that string of numbers.

You start at the first number and work out the various ways you can get to the second then see which of those ways also gets you from 2nd to 3rd number and 3rd to 4th etc.

Oh god it's early morning and this has turned into Sesame Street.

This is a normal post When you look at it...
.....the most VITAL move in the game is the THIRD one. If you screw
that one up, you gotta hit the reset button every time.

This is a normal post It's another take on the
You have a dog a chicken and some seed to take across a river but can only fit 1 at a time in your boat. You can't leave dog & chicken or chicken & seed together.

You, Dog, Chicken, Seed ~BOAT~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Destination
Dog, Seed ~~~~~~~~~~~~~BOAT~ You, Chicken
Dog, Seed, You ~BOAT~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Chicken
Dog, ~~~~~~~~~~~~~BOAT~ Chicken, You, Seed
Dog, You, Chicken ~BOAT~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Seed
Chicken, ~~~~~~~~~~~~~BOAT~ Seed, You, Dog
Chicken, You ~BOAT~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Seed, Dog
Start Point ~~~~~~~~~~~~~BOAT~ Seed, Dog, You, Chicken

This is a normal post That's an easier one
I don't think you can ever get into a situation where you have to give up and start over.

This is a normal post Finding strange patterns was good and the more complex rules you found could be simplified
This was before I was introduced to algebraic equations etc as a means to simplify things.

One of my favourite maths facts is that if you take ANY number I can tell you if it's divisble by 9 in the time it takes to add together all the digits in it until you end up with a single digit.

eg 892857048728481 = you can remove (skip) 9's as you go also, so you add 8, skip 9, 2, 8 (= 18 so reset to 0) 5, 7, 4, 8, (skip 7, 2), 8, 4, (= 36 so reset to 0), 8, 1 = 9.

That's advanced. If you just add all digits you get 81 then add those you get 9.
So it's divisible by 9.

This is a normal post This is all part of the front ;)
Now you can wow the sexy geeky chics in glasses and whisper sweet dewey decimals in their ears. Very simple things in the right context look like magic tricks.

Isn't that a system for organising books?!
