This is a link post Virtual recreation of the Elephant Man.
3D scans of Merrick's skeleton were used to recreate the conditions that would have affected his speech. An actor was then put under the same conditions with prosthetics and mandibular devices, to get the truest approximation of what he actually sounded like.

The poem he's reading is one that he used to end his letters with.
