And I did think that W7 was a seriously massive improvement over vista, (probably along with all sane people). Not even nearly perfect of course(!), but pretty good for Microsoft. Haven't seen W8 yet, but I'll be interested once it happens to roll into my field of vision.

If you use a touch screen phone or ipad you'll probably like it
but the mouse is almost clumsy for some things.

You can get a beta from MS themselves. Other than a DVDROM problem i've not found any bugs

Yep I use a touchscreen phone, and an ipad, when forced to. I prefer the better/open/accessable/modifiable alternatives which are half the price for the same same basic tech, yknow...
So with Windows 8, is it clumsly to use a mouse? I'd say the mouse has at least 5 years left in it, probably even 10, before it becomes as defunct as a dial-up 56k modem. So it seems strange to leave it behind at this point. But when is W8 due for release? I used to be a geek, honestly...

Right now i'm using firefox and a spreadsheet and it's business as usual
but when I go to the windows features such as the program menu it's all done on a button-y layout. The traditional windows are there for control panel and regedit and things like that, but it is packaged with Apps for playing music and watching videos which are more touch and gesture driven which are whole-screen affairs.
