apparently in the book her slippers were silver and Baum meant it as an allegory for money and politics but this may be just urban legend like the Pink Floyd one

The rumour was...
That Pink Floyd were destined to record the OST for 2001, and got some way into production of it, however Kubric took to listening to classical music while screening the rushes, and this choice stuck through editing to release.
The only track this works with is "Echos" which is supposed to sync up to the bit where Dave Drops Acid^H^H^H^H takes his pod on a joyride to the obalisk.

It has indeed
got silver slippers. I read it to my kids the other night. It also involves Dorothy using a special cap to summon the winged monkeys after killing the wicked witch, who rules over a country called "Winkie" (I am not making this up). There is also a journey to take Dorothy home involving the lion killing giant spiders and tin man chopping up feral animals.
