# The only reason for a rear-mounted laser...
Have a pop at the space station as you launch, then blow away 3 or 4 vipers as they emerge before hitting hyperspace :oD

I have an old laptop at home which is now pretty much dedicated to a downloaded version of Elite in all its wireframe glory and 8-bit aduio majesty.

It's not a particularly good laptop, but this must still count as one of the most overspecced bits of kit in the world!

# It's pretty good, actually!
Although running it on an anywhere near recent/decent 'puter means you've got to up your game... *considerably*, shall we say ;-)

My ageing reaction times were woeful.

# I last tried it a couple of years back when I still had a Windows machine
it's obviously still being worked on but if you liked Elite II or III then it's a must-have. it really is basically Elite III with the bugs cleaned out and a new graphics engine.

I'm getting the urge to say fuck work and play Elite II for the rest of the day now :)

Edit: Christ, Oolite is looking good! It's a couple of years since I last looked at it and it was pretty good then but someone's been doing a lot of work on it.

# I was more into Elite II
Elite didn't give you the opportunity to fit military cameras to your ship and go and photograph secret naval bases, or to go back a few months later and twat it with nuclear missiles.

It also didn't give you the opportunity to buy a cargo full of slaves and ship them to Earth only to find that because you forgot to add life support to your cargo bay, all the slaves had become animal meat.

# Forgot?
I assure you the life support omission was intentional.
