tell you what
i'll make a powerbook out of household items (being careful not to use more than £5's worth of stuff)

probably not
it'd have to be a working powerbook to get into the newsletter

well you know how you know about microprocessors and stuff?
do you reckon you could make one out of a matchbox and a few bits of tin foil?

hmm
nope.
I do have odd bits of silicon laying about though. I meant to bring some with me to the uk, now that I think of it, but they probably wouldn't have let me through security with them. they're very very sharp

maybe i'll butcher my old commodore amiga and torture it until it thinks it's a mac

I don't really know anything about amigas

to be honest
i simply didn't know what you were on about so i just rambled :)
amigas were spectacular - deluxe paint for the amiga was miles better than photoshop, despite being limited to 256 colours and about 12x14 resolution

but saying that, i sent a cd to a friend in washington state for about £2, so yeah.

well if it's the g4 with the widescreen...
i suppose that's tolerable... i just hate the whole 1 button thing... i used to be a mac head

i use
a 3-button mouse
and it is a widescreen G4 (but not the 17" one - that's just silly)

I personally prefer the 1 button touch pad on my ibook
I have wrist problems that regular mice exacerbate though

the trackpad
makes my hand hurt after a while
that's why i bought a travel mouse (it's small and has a retractable lead for storage - it's quite cute)

yeah I have one of those somewhere
it's buried under a big pile of stuff I can't find it and moving my wrist like I do, even though I shouldn't, on real mice makes my arm hurt through my wrist to my elbow

you have a sock drawer!
I'm still trying to prove I'm the messiest b3tan
I don't know why.

my sock drawer

i honestly think something lives in it

I've not bothered to assign a sock drawer.
I don't even know what's in my dresser. hmmm...
I should probably get rid of whatever is though, since I obviously never use it

that's a stupid reason
no offence, but they work with regular mice, just buy a nice 3 button optical one.
If you're going to spend the extra money to get a mac, you can afford $20 for a mouse..

that's true, but...
i also am not a big fan of the OSX interface... granted the mac is a wonderful platform, it's secure and such, i just personally prefer my PC

I just think everyone should use whatever os they want.
really, as long as you can save files into standard formats, there's no reason to squabble.
I'm a unix geek though. I like owning a unix box

yeah, I've been told
but I'm afraid of not being able to find drivers for my modem or soundcard or cd burner.
I probably will if I ever get the motivation, but for now I find it convinient to have a windows machine for things like kazaa and my music software

if you're good at tweaking BSD
you should be able to get a fine machine!

I'm waiting for someone to make a financial decision, then if it's ok, I'm going to buy myself an external dvd burner and put the poor old cd burner out of it's misery.

I bought it used for $79 which isn't a bad deal since they were still over $200 new at the time. It's been nice, but it's time for a new one
