# ooh
laptop :)
(, Tue 2 Sep 2003, 4:47, archived)
# shite
should have masked the background...
(, Tue 2 Sep 2003, 4:48, archived)
# ha
ha
(, Tue 2 Sep 2003, 4:49, archived)
# hehehehehe :)
so laptop?
(, Tue 2 Sep 2003, 4:49, archived)
# you can rent it
for a fiver

but you have to incur all postage charges i'm afraid
(, Tue 2 Sep 2003, 4:53, archived)
# damn
you don't win then, unless tom doesn't show back up to give his address
(, Tue 2 Sep 2003, 4:55, archived)
# well you can rent it
next time you're in the uk

50p per minute i reckon
(, Tue 2 Sep 2003, 5:00, archived)
# nah
I've got computers.

but a powerbook for £5 is a deal!
(, Tue 2 Sep 2003, 5:02, archived)
# oi!
it's only rental
(, Tue 2 Sep 2003, 5:08, archived)
# yeah
but that wasn't what you said to begin with :(
(, Tue 2 Sep 2003, 5:09, archived)
# tell you what
i'll make a powerbook out of household items (being careful not to use more than £5's worth of stuff)
(, Tue 2 Sep 2003, 5:11, archived)
# ha!
do it!

I bet you'd get into the newsletter too :)
(, Tue 2 Sep 2003, 5:14, archived)
# probably not
it'd have to be a working powerbook to get into the newsletter
(, Tue 2 Sep 2003, 5:15, archived)
# yeah
I thought that's what you meant

/disappointed
(, Tue 2 Sep 2003, 5:16, archived)
# well you know how you know about microprocessors and stuff?
do you reckon you could make one out of a matchbox and a few bits of tin foil?
(, Tue 2 Sep 2003, 5:18, archived)
# hmm
nope.

I do have odd bits of silicon laying about though. I meant to bring some with me to the uk, now that I think of it, but they probably wouldn't have let me through security with them. they're very very sharp
(, Tue 2 Sep 2003, 5:22, archived)
# hmm
maybe i'll butcher my old commodore amiga and torture it until it thinks it's a mac
(, Tue 2 Sep 2003, 5:24, archived)
# hehehehehe
though I'm not sure I like what you're trying to say about macs...
(, Tue 2 Sep 2003, 5:26, archived)
# oh really?
and i'm not sure i like what you're saying about Amigas
(, Tue 2 Sep 2003, 5:32, archived)
# that they need to be tortured to become macs?
I don't really know anything about amigas
(, Tue 2 Sep 2003, 5:34, archived)
# to be honest
i simply didn't know what you were on about so i just rambled :)

amigas were spectacular - deluxe paint for the amiga was miles better than photoshop, despite being limited to 256 colours and about 12x14 resolution
(, Tue 2 Sep 2003, 5:39, archived)
# i would actually send you jaffa cakes, providing i can do so for under a fiver
but saying that, i sent a cd to a friend in washington state for about £2, so yeah.
(, Tue 2 Sep 2003, 4:54, archived)
# your address please?
(, Tue 2 Sep 2003, 4:55, archived)
# are you on msn?
(, Tue 2 Sep 2003, 4:58, archived)
# no
can't you use arthur? you were there earlier...
(, Tue 2 Sep 2003, 5:00, archived)
# done
(, Tue 2 Sep 2003, 5:03, archived)
# I vote for
SEX WITH STOUFFER!
SEX WITH STOUFFER!
SEX WITH STOUFFER!
(, Tue 2 Sep 2003, 5:05, archived)
# I vote jaffa cakes :)
(, Tue 2 Sep 2003, 5:05, archived)
# admittedly
the least humiliating option..
(, Tue 2 Sep 2003, 5:20, archived)
# and it means I get jaffa cakes
(, Tue 2 Sep 2003, 5:24, archived)
# bah you don't want it...
looks like a mac... =P
(, Tue 2 Sep 2003, 4:50, archived)
# I like macs :)
and he has a powerbook

/drools
(, Tue 2 Sep 2003, 4:50, archived)
# well if it's the g4 with the widescreen...
i suppose that's tolerable... i just hate the whole 1 button thing... i used to be a mac head
(, Tue 2 Sep 2003, 4:52, archived)
# i use
a 3-button mouse

and it is a widescreen G4 (but not the 17" one - that's just silly)
(, Tue 2 Sep 2003, 4:54, archived)
# I personally prefer the 1 button touch pad on my ibook
I have wrist problems that regular mice exacerbate though
(, Tue 2 Sep 2003, 4:56, archived)
# the trackpad
makes my hand hurt after a while

that's why i bought a travel mouse (it's small and has a retractable lead for storage - it's quite cute)
(, Tue 2 Sep 2003, 4:59, archived)
# yeah I have one of those somewhere
it's buried under a big pile of stuff I can't find it and moving my wrist like I do, even though I shouldn't, on real mice makes my arm hurt through my wrist to my elbow
(, Tue 2 Sep 2003, 5:02, archived)
# i lost mine last week
found it in my sock drawer

/no idea
(, Tue 2 Sep 2003, 5:07, archived)
# you have a sock drawer!
I'm still trying to prove I'm the messiest b3tan

I don't know why.
(, Tue 2 Sep 2003, 5:10, archived)
# my sock drawer
contains far more than just socks

i honestly think something lives in it
(, Tue 2 Sep 2003, 5:12, archived)
# hmm
I've not bothered to assign a sock drawer.

I don't even know what's in my dresser. hmmm...

I should probably get rid of whatever is though, since I obviously never use it
(, Tue 2 Sep 2003, 5:15, archived)
# that's a stupid reason
no offence, but they work with regular mice, just buy a nice 3 button optical one.

If you're going to spend the extra money to get a mac, you can afford $20 for a mouse..
(, Tue 2 Sep 2003, 4:54, archived)
# that's true, but...
i also am not a big fan of the OSX interface... granted the mac is a wonderful platform, it's secure and such, i just personally prefer my PC
(, Tue 2 Sep 2003, 4:55, archived)
# although with all the grief my pc has caused me this week
i think i wouldn't mind just going and using my mom's imac
(, Tue 2 Sep 2003, 4:58, archived)
# that's a good reason
see? wasn't that easier.

I just think everyone should use whatever os they want.

really, as long as you can save files into standard formats, there's no reason to squabble.

I'm a unix geek though. I like owning a unix box
(, Tue 2 Sep 2003, 4:58, archived)
# i have a couple of them too...
but i haven't been arsed to turn them on in a while...
(, Tue 2 Sep 2003, 4:59, archived)
# why not unix on a pc then?
(, Tue 2 Sep 2003, 5:01, archived)
# she likes to
be weird different :)
(, Tue 2 Sep 2003, 5:03, archived)
# it could be cool with the new G5 dual processor mac,
but i'm not a rich man!
(, Tue 2 Sep 2003, 5:05, archived)
# they look
scarily good
(, Tue 2 Sep 2003, 5:06, archived)
# because that would require formatting and stuff
this one came ready made

(besides, my uni bought it for me)
/lazy
(, Tue 2 Sep 2003, 5:04, archived)
# you can install a bsd very quickly!
no problem!
(, Tue 2 Sep 2003, 5:08, archived)
# yeah, I've been told
but I'm afraid of not being able to find drivers for my modem or soundcard or cd burner.

I probably will if I ever get the motivation, but for now I find it convinient to have a windows machine for things like kazaa and my music software
(, Tue 2 Sep 2003, 5:13, archived)
# but
you can't get your cd burner working with windows :P
(, Tue 2 Sep 2003, 5:14, archived)
# if BSD supported all my hardware
i would run it.
(, Tue 2 Sep 2003, 5:16, archived)
# if you're good at tweaking BSD
you should be able to get a fine machine!
OSX is based on BSD!
(, Tue 2 Sep 2003, 5:24, archived)
# yeah
that's a very good point.

I'm waiting for someone to make a financial decision, then if it's ok, I'm going to buy myself an external dvd burner and put the poor old cd burner out of it's misery.

(, Tue 2 Sep 2003, 5:17, archived)
# erm...
what's the problem with your cd burner?
(, Tue 2 Sep 2003, 5:20, archived)
# it's 6 years old
it doesn't work reliably any more
(, Tue 2 Sep 2003, 5:25, archived)
# oohh..
i think it's close to death!
(, Tue 2 Sep 2003, 5:26, archived)
# yeah
seems to be.

I bought it used for $79 which isn't a bad deal since they were still over $200 new at the time. It's been nice, but it's time for a new one
(, Tue 2 Sep 2003, 5:28, archived)
# it can't be long
before dvd-burners get cheap!
(, Tue 2 Sep 2003, 5:34, archived)
# yeah
when the blue laser ones come out, the red laser ones will be cheap.
(, Tue 2 Sep 2003, 5:36, archived)
# oh, forgot to mention
my powerbook has a superdrive too

/rubs it in
(, Tue 2 Sep 2003, 5:37, archived)
# yeah
well my iBook was free!
(, Tue 2 Sep 2003, 5:39, archived)
# bastard
(, Tue 2 Sep 2003, 5:39, archived)
# they've got a fine documentation:
(, Tue 2 Sep 2003, 5:17, archived)
# yep
as I say, I'll probably do it one day, but I'm more lazy than I am geeky, so it's just going to stay windows until I get very very very bored one day and do it on an impulse
(, Tue 2 Sep 2003, 5:19, archived)
# it is
and it's beautiful
(, Tue 2 Sep 2003, 4:51, archived)
