# In my parents' village in Nottingham
I used to work in the local pub opposite the church. As with many pubs-opposite-churches in England, there was an tunnel going under the road linking the two together. For years this has been bricked up. But there is one brick that you have to leave out. The brick is still there just sitting on the shelf by the wall, but there's just this 1 brick hole in the middle of it.

Whenever anyone new starts at the pub, they always seem to want to 'do the right thing' and put the brick back without telling anyone. Then random things happen like glasses falling of shelves and things moving. So someone has to go back and take the brick back out.

Personally I put this down to the new person being, well, new and being clumsy or just not putting things back where they should. But most think it's a ghost. Make of it what you will....

# How did this all start?
'I don't believe it! You've dropped four bottles of wine in the last week! And broken seventeen glasses! You're fired!'

'Hang on a minute boss....it might be to do with this brick, right....'

'Go on.'

'Well, you know that bricked up tunnel? There's this brick in the middle of the wall - I reckon it's a right bastard. Take it away from it's mates, and I reckon all the trouble will stop.'

'Good idea lad. You're rehired.'

Six Months Later.

'Shit, I dropped a glass. The boss is going to kill me.'

'Nah, he won't. I did the same thing when I started....there's this brick, see...'

# hahaha
you're probably right.

The land-lord has changed several times over the last few years. and the brick has been out ever since I can remember (I'm 26 and I heard the story first when I was a mere whippersnapper). It's just ones of those tales.

We did try putting it back a few years back to see what would happen. The usual stuff did happen. It wasn't me, honest ;)

[challenge entry] Oh, yeah,
Didn't we tell you? That hole's where the gravity for the pub comes in. Got to be open, y'see, otherwise it'll make an absolute cock-up of the pub's physics.
Sorry.
