Actually PNGcan be compressed very small if you use the right software. It's just that most paint packages don't bother with the compression stuff, because they're a bunch of lazy gits.

OvenReady does a decent job if it`s GIF-ableand the file size is usually a few bytes more..
maybe I`ve missed the compression thingalisers in Photoshop - there`s nothing useful for controlling it within Photoshop Elements
