i'm housesitting right now for a friend -- the house is quite old (turn of the century or older), and the ceiling fixture in the living room is swastika-shaped. i covet it.

representing the turning of the sun, used by many cultures, from the Celts to Hinduism
Many really old churches have swastika symbols, mainly because they were built at a time they were still really busy converting the inlanders, and thought they'd humour them a bit by using their symbols.
