I'm a bit pissed off this morning
Found that management had installed NetOp on my machine without telling me

Oh joys :/
If I recall correctly that's some sort of sniffer program isn't it? Monitors your internet usage?

That'd be the buggers.
I hate the fun police.
However NetOp might not be what I think it is...

Well a quick google suggests that it's some kind of remote desktop thing
So I'd put money on it being a tool of the fun police.

Haha yes
It was password-protected too so I couldn't turn it off...
so I did a search for the executable files, stopped them running as processes and then uninstalled the bloody thing. I expect I'll get a call about that at some point.

Yeah
they're really going to have to try harder than that if they want to catch me spending all day on b3ta

ummm
NetOP is not for spying but for remote control and configuration, like DameWare, iirc

Ah you're right
I wasn't entirely sure.
On the other hand those programs can be used to monitor your usage simply by sharing your desktop...

I suspect this is the case
I think management jsut want to be able to look at what I'm doing at any given moment.
The fact that it was installed overnight without a word to me is also kinda suspicious

I know
but my boss has been trying to fire me for months now and every time he's spectacularly failed...I have grievance claims for constructive dismissal queued up against him.
Looking for a new job.

Yeah but surely you've got a right to know if you're being monitored?
( ,

Nope.
Basically, whenever you use a PC in an office, you should expect to be monitored.
It's all in the 'Internet Usage' policy thing...
I know this because I've caused several people to get fired (I actually installed the monitoring software - and monitor it ;)

I'll just say that I thought my machine was in danger of being hacked
They never mentioned they were going to put monitoring software on my PC, so I was concerned that it was an unauthorised attempt to gain access to company information.
