# hmm
i don't know how to respond to this. my house at home had them in the hall, up the stairs and in the breakfast room when my family moved in, but it's a post war house i think.
although my mam did have the one in the breakfast room removed (rather shoddily at first) when we moved in

# ^this
hideous and unsightly faux-wood rails around one's abode do nothing to enhance the beauty of the room.

# dado rails are rather useful for hiding the join between old and new plaster
after an extensive dampcourse

# well rule of thumb
people with dado rail have spent twice as much on wall paper / paint on those who don't have a dodo rail
plus they're ugly!
(unless your house is an antique (like roverghists) then i'd recommend taking em down and burning your house - gas mark 4 for 30 minutes - turn after 15 minutes

# I love your logic
I had a dado rail in the sitting room in my last house in London but it was built in 1884 and belonged there.

My pet hate is those "lounges" (lordy I hate that word) who put a wallpaper strip thing (where the dado rail should go) and have patterned wallpaper above and plain colour below.
With matching dralon "lounge suite" and matching generic pictures on the wall.

# Yes
My dad died yesterday morning and here I am on B3ta.

It's really not tragic like other people's losses on the board. He had a long life and died in his sleep with no pain. That's the way we all should go and I feel very pleased with the manner in which he died; peacefully.

We all expected it and thankfully all managed to say our goodbyes. Not many get that chance.
I feel lucky and not too upset.
(, Sun 16 Dec 2007, 21:24, archived)
