The only risk is that if you go through rapids or down a fall and you don't close your eyes in time and get a face full of water, they may get washed up to the top of your eyes. Don't worry though, they drift back down shortly after. I developed the habit of doing rapids with one eye only slightly open, so if the fully open one got the lens washed up I could still see out of one eye.
