I have a big long thin cactus, too.
I'm amazed it's survived the number of times I've knocked it over.

same here!
i had it on top of the telly, but it fell off about 4 times in a week. after catching it and getting a handful of spikes for the third time, i decided to cut all its spikes off. it still survived!

I did that too, I was picking spikes out of my hand for hours.
I never learn, so mine's still fully spikey.

best to leave it
cutting the spikes off can often kill them. i've got 5 now, but the others have kind of umbrella-shaped spike clusters, so they turn down and don't prickle you.
