# :) I know people in the SCA
I can confirm this funniness

# SCA are cool!
It's roleplaying with neato costumes and no idiots trying to claim their lightening bolt would go straight through your ring of protection or something such shit. And there's lots of drinking and you get to beat people up without getting hurt too badly or getting arrested and most importantly, you can call (almost) any woman a WENCH and she LIKES IT!

# you in the SCA?
if so where?
(, Thu 17 Jul 2008, 10:23, archived)
# I never officially joined but I went to one Lochac festival when it were
still at the Tara site. Went to a few other events around Rowany. Haven't really kept up with it for several years though. Once I'm a little slimmer though, I'll probably look at it again. I wanted to get into the fighting but being a 400lb beast, it wasn't really happening :)

# just get yourself a ship
and you will find that all your mates are suddenly pirates.

(, Thu 17 Jul 2008, 10:29, archived)
# Oh good idea!
The next time I'm out shopping I'll pick m'self up a nice barque!

You know, pirates are not actually very nice people. Captain Wow excluded of course.
(, Thu 17 Jul 2008, 10:31, archived)
# all the pirates I know
from the maritime festivals are ace people. especially when we end up pissed.

(P.S. a barque would be a ridiculous idea for a pirate ship, you want a nice fast and manoeuvrable brigantine like above ;))

# *sniffs*
Well my, my, my! Aren't we just the fancy pants mariner now!

*offers albatross stew*
Hungry?

# arrrrgh
don't kill the albatross!

As for being a mariner yes. I have been since I was born.
I've sailed in the smallest dinghies up to being on board a British nuclear fuels Ltd. nuclear waste carrier and laughing my cock off when we ran her aground in the Manchester ship canal.

what is the SCA by the way?
(, Thu 17 Jul 2008, 10:47, archived)
# SCA = The Society for Creative Anachronisms.
Bascially it's a world-wide group of folk who get together and enjoy the middle ages as best they can from a modern perspective. There's a scholarly side for many folk who enjoy doing crafts using only tools available in various periods and there's the better known dress-up-and-hit-people-with-sticks side. There's also a lot of feasting, drinking, dancing and courting which can be an awful lot of fun.

# ah right.
sounds very much like what we do with the festivals.
(, Thu 17 Jul 2008, 11:04, archived)
# yeah same here really
only the brusies my mate got put me off a bit
(, Thu 17 Jul 2008, 10:29, archived)
# I think the bruises just toughen you up a bit.
Plus they're good in the tavern when you're looking for some sympathy from a nice cuddly mammal.
(, Thu 17 Jul 2008, 10:33, archived)
# Ah....
I'll see how soon I can sign up
(, Thu 17 Jul 2008, 10:45, archived)
# Actually I probably should start playing again too.
I could do with getting out of the house some more.
(, Thu 17 Jul 2008, 10:47, archived)
# Haha
They fight with sticks, like girls.
(, Thu 17 Jul 2008, 10:31, archived)
# and morris dancers!
The SCA isn't about chest beating and proving your manhood by having a dangerous hobby.
