I don't know anything about watchmenother than I have seen the trailer and it looks generic Marvel/comicbook fodder which I shall most likely watch. I have all the comics in PDF on my PC but have only looked at 2 pages.
I don't get the fuss about Batman either. It started out silly and got worse, then decided to become all moody and serious ending up with an identity more confused than James Bond.

there is one 'little' bugbear I have about The Dark KnightBale does insist on over-using the 'gruff' voice. It's quite distracting in places.
