I think the code behind the profile page
deliberately disables any Javascript code in your profile.
I doubt if there's a way round it, and if you found one I suspect you'd be in trouble - it's been deliberately disabled for a reason.

It just seems to strip out all script stuff when you save it

yep some javascripty bits are stripped out
when the profile page is rendered - not when you can save your profile.

I was hoping to use CSS to show/hide bits of my profile
but I needed javascript to be able to swap the classes.
