# about the transparency:
you need to have all the frames in "replace" mode instead of "combine" mode. this may or may not work with whatever mechanism you're using to optimize the GIF.

I've got imageready cs3 in here somewhere but I only use GIMP

In Imageready CS2 you have to set the frames to "Restore To Background" rather than "Do Not Dispose" or "Automatic"
(right click on the little bouncy ball icon in the animation palette to change it in case you can't find it)
