I'm not saying it did for me,
but take something like Catcher in the Rye. A lot of people claim it helped them through their disenfranchised youths and such. There are plenty of books out there that have helped people through difficult times in their lives.

But disenfranchisment and youth go hand in hand.
Disenfranchisement is usually solved by a lack of youth. Growing up is the best medicine.
