"Reconnect with her".
You should email them and say you're distraught. Maybe they'll send you some free facebook money.

Ah wow that's interesting - I may well pass that on.
I've not wanted to de-friend her - it seems a bit harsh under the circumstances, but it is a bit odd when she pops up on the random friend thing, and increasingly now that they are giving all these unwanted reminders of people you've not contacted.
Cheers

Yeah, I had a similar-ish experience
when I was looking through my mobile phone's stored numbers and found one for a friend who had been killed three years beforehand. I wavered for a while before I just deleted it, it was a very odd feeling though.

I don't get Facebook. I really don't get it at all.
The only reason I consider using it is to try and get in touch with my estranged half-brother, but even then, only as a means to an end.
I've yet to have the point of it explained to me satisfactorily.

I only started on there because people I'd met while travelling were pestering me to join.
Eventually I did, and ended up keeping in much closer contact with a lot of them (and meeting up with some of them a few times) than I would probably otherwise have done.
edit: also, a work colleague of mine joined and ended up getting in touch with her estranged sister, I don't think it's an uncommon reason to join.

See - this is it.
Email keeps me in touch with my friends in Australia, Germany, France, America ... and the 'phone with my friends in Britain.
Messageboards - sure, but ... but ... "A Vagabond is having a shit" and "omg wtf i jst sw jordan in pic circus lol"? "Would you like a game of scrabble?"?
I mean - srsly?
Maybe I'm just a grumpy git, but I just don't understand it's porpoise.

I treat it
as an email directory that doesn't go out of date -- so long as they stay on Facebook, it sends things to an email address they're using. Saves me trying to figure out what email address they're using at the minute.

I don't update my profile with any useless shite like that, and hide anyone who does. It's as pointless or as civilised as you make it.
