[challenge entry]

I'll TJ my own thread, for this is fluffy to the extreme

Had some really nice emails through my Youtube account in the last couple of days. This was sitting in my inbox when I got to work yesterday:

Re: cat trust/leon gardner
hi. i found your video by accident when looking for music of leon gardner's online. leon is a resident at the senior citizens nursing home where my mother works in nevada, usa. we are trying to dig up music of his to play for him. he has none of his past, family, or anything left. he was telling my mother about his music days etc. so as a favor i am trying to download any tracks of his i can find so she clan play them for him and the other residents at the home. his music has been very hard to find any recordings of. your video has an excellent quality recording. i was able to get that to cd but i was wondering if you might know where else i might look for more of his music? i have only been able to find one other song, it was on itunes, 'be there', but for some reason it is not downloadable after trying to purchase it. so finding your video was great. any ideas would be appreciated, thanks.

Re: cat trust/leon gardner
Unfortunately. this is the only Leon Gardener track I know of, on a compilation called Keb Darge's Deep Funk, off the top of my head volume two.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keb_Darge

Keb Darge might be worth contacting. He must be out there on Facebook or something. Just done some digging around, apparently he released a couple of 7' singles under his own name, but that appears about it. I found this:

www.discogs.com/artist/Leon+Gardner

BTW, on the sleave notes to Deep Funk vol.2 Keb describes Leon's 'The Natural' as about the funkiest piece of deep funk there is!

Good luck, and fascinating email, if you need the track directly onto CD not via youtube, let me know

To which he replied this morning:

hey. so i found kebs myspace page, sent him a message so hopefully i will hear back from him. in the meantime your audio made an old lonely man very happy today. my mother played the track with leon in the room, he looks up, says who is that singing, my mother said i dont know who is it, he lights up and says its me! he stands up and starts doing a little shuffle dance. the other people in the room start cheering him on. he names off the other musicians who worked on the track. they talked about it all day. he said having gotten to hear that made it all worth it. no one ever paid attention to his stories or took them seriously. as well my mother said it was perfect timing as he has been sort of depressed lately, staying in his room, not going to dinner, etc. but after hearing his song he was all happy. it really made leons day. hopefully keb will get back to me with some more tracks. but thanks again.

How fluffy is that! All that from a youtube video of snow leopards. The internets are great :D
