"They are only hanging upside down during the daylight hours, sleeping while waiting for sundown. As they enter the cave, (or go to the tree limb, depending on what type of bat) they defecate just before making the flip to the upside down position, and/or they they wait until they are ready to fly off for the night's hunt, and they will empty themselves, as they turn loose to fly".
