I don't think I've heard one scream in shock. I've always been struck as to how calm they sound when faced with explosions, car crashes, maniacs wielding guns etc. What's that all about?

cites the Russian soldiers apparent lack of distress as one of the factors that lead to extreme demotivation in Operation Barbarossa. That and the vast featureless terrain, seemingly unlimited enemy numbers and fatal winter.

I don't know why this is thought to be an accident. He definitely takes this route everyday.
