This is a question I don't understand the attraction

Smaug says: Ricky Gervais. Lesbian pr0n. Going into a crowded bar, purely because it's crowded. All these things seem to be popular with everybody else, but I just can't work out why. What leaves you cold just as much as it turns everyone else on?

Music music music
Any music that people love when in fact, they can probably do it themselves...and a whole lot better too.

Scouting for Girls..i mean seriously, three lads that play instruments (well done) and each song sounds identical to the last. cunto's.

Razorlight...another set of cocknockers that do something that has been done a hundred thousand times before, and a hell of a lot better than they can do.

La Roux...sounds like a very ugly woman screeching with a zx spectrum 128k tape playing in the background.

Little Boots - Exactly the same as the above, but girls seem to chum off her. Dunno why.

There are plenty more where that came from but I decided to cut it short as not to bore you lovely people. I understand that 'pop music' has to have a place in the world, and a lot of it is good for what it is, but when people try to make it as though these people are the ultimate musicians that cant be touched or replicated, then it completely cocks me off.

rant over :D

fuck me, scouting for girls are shit
my band's ok, we're not going anywhere, but we are a fuck load better than that trio of cocksucking talentless arsemunchers

Dumber than the average bear

You're right, much better than S4G
Is that damning with faint praise?

I jest, very nice. Loving the inclusion of the Banjo.

EDIT: In fact I listened to all your songs all the way through without turning you off. Well done chaps.

I was dragged to see "The View" at T in the Park this year.
The crowd was insanely densely packed, and I'm surprised no-one died. I managed to get out of there, but in the twenty minutes I stayed, I could not for the life of me work out why they were so popular.

I picked my favourite bands many years ago and most of them are still going. I must be getting old, because recent music is all the same, and it's shite. They hate me when I'm on the juke box in my local :)
(, Wed 21 Oct 2009, 17:07, closed)
they're all shite of course
felt that Scouting & Razorshite are easy targets though.

Definitely true about La Roux and Little Boots - where exactly is it these mediocre pop-tarts get their perceived credibility? This applies to Ms Ga Ga too.

I was thinking about this yesterday, as a matter of fact.
A few years back, a love song involved soaring emotion, hair-ripping high notes and declarations of unending love. I heard one the other day, I think it was that Gaga thing, about some bird's boyfriend dancing with someone else, so she texted her friends to knock the shit out of her.

What?

No really, is that what it's come to? They say to know about a culture look at it's art. Some chavs having a fight in a nightclub. That's what our culture has descended to.

I like La Roux
but she's not as good as Florence
(, Wed 21 Oct 2009, 17:20, closed)
I can't differentiate between them.
This current batch of ever-so-trendy, NME-friendly, 80s-nostalgia electro-clones fill me with an overwhelming sense of meh
(, Wed 21 Oct 2009, 17:28, closed)
But Florence is ace!
TO be honest, it's more the mrs that listens to this sort of stuff - I'm an old-school grunge & punk man myself.
(, Wed 21 Oct 2009, 17:30, closed)
I don't understand the comparison between the two.
La Roux is a painful 80's nostalgia act that sounds really uninspired and won't be worth a damn in 5 years, whereas Florence -although incorporates more than a little bit of 80's sound in her work- is a genuinely talented vocalist who sings well-crafted songs that are much darker than your usual pop song. The only comparison is that they're both popular in '09, like the eighties and are redheads.
(, Wed 21 Oct 2009, 23:21, closed)
Florence is an 80s-nostalgia clone
But a Kate Bush one, not an electro one.

Also she is indeed ace, especially on Rabbit Heart and Coffins. So thar. :)

Scouting For Girls
have absolutely no redeeming features. I once got a voucher to download one of their songs for free, and even then I felt ripped off.

Razorlight annoy me for a multitude of reasons, so many in fact that their music is a distant fourth on the list behind "the singer is a cunt" and "people keep telling me I look like that cunt singer" and "my ex was obsessed with them and drove me mental with it".
(, Wed 21 Oct 2009, 17:48, closed)
I'm sure the rest of razorlight are thoroughly decent chaps...
...it's just their lead singer Johnny whatshisface who's a trolley-cunt-beermug.
