This is a question Corporate Idiocy

Comedian Al Murray recounts a run-in with industrial-scale stupidity: "Car insurance company rang, without having sent me a renewal letter, asking for money. Made them answer security questions." In the same vein, tell us your stories about pointless paperwork and corporate quarter-wits

Development reviews.
One menial task I have is to ensure my minions process 50 or so cheque payments per week so that the cheques are in the post within 5 working days.

My boss has to counter-sign the cheques. "so shouldn't my target be to ensure that they're ready to sign within 3 or 4 days"

"no. Make sure they're signed and posted within 5"

Righto then...

It's called...
..managing upwards. Or "making your boss do stuff". It can be pretty rewarding sometimes.

Yes. But in this case, it's also called "pay everyone late, to keep the cashflow looking good". Not corporate idiocy, just plain old traditional vanilla flavoured evilness.
