DIY disastersI just can't do power tools. They always fly out of control and end up embedded somewhere they shouldn't. I've no idea how I've still got all the appendages I was born with.
Add to that the fact that nothing ends up square, able to support weight or free of sticking-out sharp bits and you can see why I try to avoid DIY.

A friend of mineWas trying to drill some holes in a wall to put some shelves up, with a cordless drill.
I went round there, and he asked me if I knew how to sharpen a drill bit.
I said it's not really worth it, and wondered why he asked.
It turned out that this poor man had spent an hour trying to drill into a concrete wall with a wood drill-bit, the drill set to lowest ratchet setting, and the spin set to reverse.
Took all of five minutes once he knew what to do...

Lack of funnyI actually find the image of someone swearing at the wall as the drill spins the wrong way quite hilarious! *clicks*

..That reminds me of when one of the other apprentices at work went to drill a number plate and couldn't do it until it was explained to him.
Apparently he didn't know that drills have a reverse setting, after going on about how many vans and trucks he'd worked on before. Started on monday, left by thursday, result.
