It's actually a carefully planned trap to capture homosexuals in their native habitat. As they jostle for position around the "bait", a large net falls from the sky and entangles 4 - 5 in one go. They usually end up being sold to a Turkish zoo in an ill-fated attempt to bolster numbers for their breeding program.
