Ive had 2cvs for years, on my 4th and probably the last, due to the dwindling spares situation.
and i can happily inform you that you did not kill it with unleaded petrol, they have been able to run on unleaded for yonks, a few tweaks to the timing and valve clearance no problem,
it sounds to me like you had timing advance or possibly valve sticking issues issues causing it to overheat .
oh a bunch of random fucking cunts rolled mine over in the street last night, it looks a bit sick now
