This is a question Expensive Weekends

Chthonic says he's still reeling from a trip to a wedding that cost him nearly £600; while a friend of ours hazily presented his credit card to the bar staff in a shady club in the Baltic states. You know how that one ended.

I can't get my head around that
The idea of spending the same amount of dosh for a push bike, that would get you a 12 month taxed, ticketed, insured good condition ready to roll motor that will last a few years is against my religion.
My last motor was a £300 Nissan that was solid, and lasted for 5 years of high rep-style mileage....

Aye, but how much do you spend on petrol?
I probably spend £160 a month on petrol, commuting. I've also probably spent around a grand on my bike; I can ride my bike when I'm broke, drunk, want a laugh etc. The car is functional and useful, but could never not have a nice bike too! I've had too many shit bikes to not appreciate it

I buy nice bikes from the car boot sale, £10-20 depending on condition and haggling technique
and save a fortune in petrol, parking etc, and get fitter too.

I've never been without a nearly-new bike in years and can afford to buy a 'new' bike when I see one I fancy and pass my current one on to someone else!

Good point
I got one of my nicest bikes from a local auction house for £20. Didn't look all that, but rode like a dream. And because it looked a bit old and battered, was virtually thief proof too :-)

Technically
you can get done for being drunk and cycling.

because the feeling going down a hill, round a berm, off a drop, over a jump on yer bike is fuckin awesome and i've spent nearly 2 grand on mine to do it! money well spent
