This is a question Turning into your parents

Unable to hold back the genetic tide, I find myself gardening in my carpet slippers, asking for a knife and fork in McDonalds and agreeing with the Daily Telegraph. I'm beyond help - what about you?

Thanks to b3th for the suggestion

Oh dear
I read the Daily Telegraph and enjoy doing so.
I enjoy listening to Beethoven, Bach and Vivaldi, amongst other composers.
I'm 16.
I have never been drunk (although I enjoy bitter and a few lagers, and know more about wines than some adults I know) and have no intention of doing so until I can legally buy alcohol.
I think those teens who choose to get drunk so they can "have a good time" are degenerates.
I do not associate myself with these degenerates.
I'm 16.
I cannot stand Drum and Bass music, thinking it to just be the sound of Satan's farts.
I do not go to discos. If I am forced to go to one, I do not dance as I do not enjoy it.
I'm 16.
Modern Pop music, as well as Indie music (but let's face it, what's the difference these days?), is nowadays the same tune over and over again by bands that sound indentical.
I listen to The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Kinks, Frank Sinatra and other big band music.
I'm 16.

Err, hang on a sec...

*ulp*

Ha! I know the feeling...
I think you'll go far. Stop reading the Torygraph, though. And, if you don't want to drink, then that's fine - you probably get points for that - but the legality aspect is neither here nor there.

No problem with that
You sound quite sensible.

It's refreshing to hear of a teenager these days who is able to enjoy alcohol sensibly: i.e to choose drinks in moderation which are to their taste - as opposed to simply drinking alcohol with the sole intention to get drunk. Those are the morons - and to hear a 16-year-old like you actually gives me some hope for the future.

You're right about music too. Any song which will endure as a classic - still to be played and remembered for decades to come - will have a proper tune and lyrics which can be understood. The other trash comes and goes, and is forgotten very quickly.

I disagree about lyrics that can be understood.
Were that a criterion for a good song, then all songs ought to be translated, which is absurd. There's plenty of good incomprehensible stuff. Moreover, that's often a good thing - being a good songwriter doesn't imply being a good writer. Most lyrics are awful, across the board.

You know
you don't stand out as much as you think you do.

I came here to post this

(, Sun 3 May 2009, 14:44, closed)
Oh dear...
I'm also 16 and do a lot of these things.
The only thing that I do differently is that i do listen to music that you seem to disagree with (but I also listen to ones that you do agree with.)

You're not alone.

Actually you should feel better because I'm turning into my dad by doing these things and I'm a girl :/
(, Sun 3 May 2009, 14:55, closed)
I suppose I should be ashamed
of my musical tastes, occassionally irresponsible drinking and not really caring two bits about 'wine knowledge'.
As far as I might agree with you on the point of discos, you just sound pretentious saying all that. None of these make you any better.
(, Sun 3 May 2009, 16:21, closed)
exactly
what I was going to say...
(, Sun 3 May 2009, 17:53, closed)
uh...
I never actually said I was better.

*checks post*

Nope, no mention of "better" anywhere in it. If I came over as pretentious or trying to claim that I am better or superior in any way, clearly you are reading too far into my post. I did not intend to give out any message that I was better than anyone, only to show the ways in which I believe I have turned into my parents, which is the subject of this QOTW. Therefore, sir, you are essentially calling my parents snobs. And that, sir, is bad form.

"I think those teens who choose to get drunk so they can "have a good time" are degenerates.
I do not associate myself with these degenerates."

This screams 'I am better' - 'degenerate' is a word with obvious negative connotations. You are not better.
(, Sun 3 May 2009, 18:46, closed)
oh ffs...
How many people on QOTW are going to pick holes in other's posts, or even try and start an argument with someone due to the connotations of a word?

I chose that word (honestly, English exam soon and in my free time I'm talking about word choice. Madness...) out of jest, not of spite. I know full well the connotations of "degenerate", hence the reason I chose it.

I've already said I was not trying to show myself as better in my earlier reply. However, as you clearly chose to ignore it after probably reading the first few lines, I shall repeat it here, in big capital letters so you can't miss it, ok?

I DO NOT THINK I AM BETTER.

There, you can thank me later for repeating myself.

Now, if you feel the urge to respond to this reply, first respond to this: aw, why can't we all just get along and not argue on an internet forum/messageboard-thingy?
(, Sun 3 May 2009, 18:54, closed)
Screw arguing.
Time for some underage drinking :)
(, Sun 3 May 2009, 19:04, closed)
Good idea,
Mine's a pint of bitter!

Hey, I like some drinking!
(, Sun 3 May 2009, 19:13, closed)
Mine's usually whatever I can afford.
Beggars can't be choosers, you know.
(, Sun 3 May 2009, 19:18, closed)
please no....
the torygraph is full of crap

Oh dear
I think there is a very good chance you will die a virgin.
(, Mon 4 May 2009, 4:17, closed)
virgin
i see where you're coming from , but you still sound like a twat. no worries though - you're young and ideal and that's a great start. just don't be a twat in 10 years from now or i'll run you over. for fun.
