This is a question Bizarre habits

Sandettie Light Vessel Automatic tells us: "Until I pointed it out, my other half use to hang out the washing making sure that both pegs were the same colour. Now she goes out of her way to make sure they never match." Tell us about bizarre rituals, habits and OCD-like behaviour.

When there were phone boxes
I used to make a habit of answering any one that I passed and happened to hear ringing, just so I could inform the poor soul on the other end that they'd dialled a call box and should hang up. Otherwise they might keep trying the number again and again, wondering why friends/lovers/relatives weren't answering and eventually be driven to despair.

Anyway I carried on being a good Samaritan in this regard for many moon until one day, passing a phone box not far outside my house, I answered it and was surprised to find the person on the other end chatting away to me like an old friend.

After I moment I realised this was because the person on the other end of this random phone box that I'd randomly answered was in fact my Dad.

The sheer staggering strangeness of the co-incidence freaked me out to the point where I don't answer phone boxes any more.

What?
Your dad called a wrong number and it happened to be a phone box you were walking past?

I once answered a ringing phone in a phonebox
for the exact same reason that I was worried about the person on the other end not being able to get through to anyone.

I got a barage of smutty-talk before I hung up. Wasn't your dad, was it?

Funnily enough, I was on my way to my girlfriend's house for a very special evening we'd had planned for a long time. Unusually I was walking there and en route, a phonebox was ringing. Curiosity got the better of me and I answered. Knowing what I do now, that was a big mistake.

You see, no sooner had I answered it than I fell asleep in the box. Only the person at the other end knows why because I had every medical test imaginable without result so it must have been something they did. Unfortunately I've no idea who that was.

But anyway, I got back up, ran to my girlfriend's place except I'd ruined everything and she simply couldn't forgive me. Really, it might seem harsh but I'd broken her trust, albeit through no fault of my own. Over the next few months, the stress of the break-up caused me to lose my job which meant I lost my house and had to move into a crumby bedsit and generally watch my life slowly rust away. When I look back on it, I guess it just takes one random shit on the other end of a phoneline to screw up your life with his callous disregard for you. Now if only I knew who it was, I'd take my revenge out on him, ruining his life as thoroughly as he ruined mine but I guess that's never going to happen.
