You're not wrong, but it does go both ways.
There are just as many people who will outright dismiss anything they disagree with as 'loony-lefty bleeding-heart liberalism' without any examination of context of the statement or the author.

It's essentially nothing more than a lazy get-out clause for those who don't have the skills to argue their case properly. "I don't have to listen to you, you're one of those stupid people!"

And of course my point doesn't just apply to anti right wingers. It's the whole spectrum of people who think that insulting someone is a valid argument against that person's view. Excellent examples already in this thread.
