I never played with proper leather footballsBut the flyaways that they sold in my school used to sting like buggery if they ever caught you on a cold day.

An old fashioned leather footballwould absorb water when playing in the rain, with the result that its weight increased by a huge amount and its elasticity decreased similarly.
It was like playing football with a pumpkin.

Can't remember what it was calledbut one of the lads at primary school used to have one and on a wet day it would be quite a challenge for 10 year olds to play with!
