Football
This will probably force me to incur the wrath of hundreds of football fans but I have to say I hate the game with a passion.

I cannot stand the endless punditry, meaningless conversation, tv coverage and reporting in this country’s media. Often at the expense of what I regard to be much more important/interesting news.

The fans are hostile compared to other sports, the amount of money involved is disgusting and at best our national team is average.

The game has long since lost any form of sportsmanship or sporting endeavour. While I appreciate the game can involve considerable skill, this mostly seems lost amidst the diving and melodramatics.

Even the fact that I'm now in fear of pissing off absolutely everybody with this post makes me angry.

Rant over. Best get my coat.

this isnt going to piss anyone off
most football fans agree with what you said concerning saturated coverage and the diving , and the england team being shit. And Frank Lampard is a cunt.

*click*
spot on, it's annoying and everyone is expected to care when we don't lose a game and live in hope we may actually win. Oh and especially annoying - all those Man U fans that live in London. You know who you are!!

You can have a clicky too
Football, waste of space. If you enjoy it fine. But don't force it down the throats of the rest of us. I find it especially annoying the ammount of media coverage football (and particularly that of the english team) gets, being as I'm Scottish. I could care less how england and england football teams are doing in a sport I find as entertaining as watching paint dry.

I agree
I was super pleased we didn't get into the euro thing this year cos we can have a summer without 90% of the country turning into racists ( oh sorry I meant patriots ).

Football sucks.

Have *CLICK*
not just an ordinary click, a great big click. I'm not into football (but know the rules as I was brought up in a football mad family) and televised games are the bane of my life. These overpaid and overblown jessies trip over a blade of grass and go down like they've been shot. Why doesn't the ref tell them to get up or get off?
(, Wed 7 May 2008, 14:49, closed)
I'll tell you what pisses ME off so much...
The inordinate amount of media coverage given to football.

The fact is, these days we have many more channels than before. There are several DEDICATED sports channels, which sports fans can watch.

Why is it then, that when I turn on BBC News 24, there's about a 1 in 3 chance that they're reporting on "Sports news".

This is NOT NEWS. Unless it is actually truly [inter]nationally significant - like our national team winning some major tournament, or reporting on a huge event like the World Cup or the Olympics - which are general interest - then these local team results and player purchases etc belong on the sports channels. If a sports fan wants to hear the latest, then they can tune in to one of their dedicated channels. Now stop wasting my news time with boring irrelevancies.

I am indifferent to the game mesen, it's not my bag, couldn't really care,
what narks me is it's another one of those chav-a-like 'YOU Must Like It Or Die' peer pressure things, sometimes people actually threaten you if you say you're not into it and don't wanna know about it, I mean, WTF!? I'm not stopping you, fuck off and marry it if you like, but how is my not wanting to a problem for you?

I really really fucking hate that, in all it's forms, there's just no fucking need.

As a lifelong supporter of a small, local provincial team
I like my football. I enjoy going to the games and getting behind the team, having a laugh, feeling the pain when we lose and so on. And I'm interested in how my team is doing, and how the other teams around are playing.

But I have little or no interest in watching televised football, whether it be internationals, Euro games or even (especially) Old Firm games or Manchester Utd vs Chelsea or whatever. That's not proper sport. It's commerce with a ball.

Edit: Actually, come to think of it, I don't watch much sport of any sort on telly, except for Formula 1, because I can't afford to go to all of the races, only one or very occasionally two a year.

have a click
because football is so mindless and tedious.
(, Wed 7 May 2008, 14:55, closed)
Have a click
For pure agreements sake. Overpaid, over pampered Jessies the lot of them!

Rugby, now that's a sport!
(, Wed 7 May 2008, 14:56, closed)
I could start a whole separate rant
about how much that stupid lipped twat Mark Lawrenson pisses me off
(, Wed 7 May 2008, 14:56, closed)
EuroSong
I agree.

Surely Sports News should fall under the same level of importance as video games news, car news, bike news, or celebrity news? These are things which are only of importance to those that take an interest in them.

I am not bothered by football either
I dont mind watching it if its a big game and Im in the pub or something but Im really not bothered and hate that so much time and space is devoted to it. Make the football clubs pay for the coverage rather than the other way round... they have enough fucking cash if they are paying players 250k a week!!!!!!!!!! (Ok, that might be a month.. but its a shitload whatever)
(, Wed 7 May 2008, 14:58, closed)
clickety click
I know this is just a sad reflection of our society but this is brilliant - click!

I had the misfortune to be stuck on a 4.5hr train journey with 2 carriages of drunken 'boro fans. If anyone deserves culling it's those with a red book. Twats.

I am a football fan
but agree that the Premiership an over-hyped pile of shite.

I support my local club, and we have been in the lower echelons forever so never got any media coverage anyway!

.
I must confess I'm not a fan of footie or sport in general come to think of it.
Don't get me wrong I quite like playing sports; I've just never seen the point in watching someone else do all the hard work.

Then again I was also once told I was "Gay" for not watching football; however when I pointed out that watching 22 sweaty, athletic men running around in tight shorts kissing each other when they put a ball between two posts was potentially a little homoerotic, I was greeted with a stroppy silence and told to “shut up”, there’s nothing quite like a reasoned argument….

Football Kids
Yeah, I didn't find what all the fuss is about with football.

All those years ago the kids who were good at football held god like a status while everyone else were mere plebs to their might.

I on the other hand played Basketball & American football. They didn't find it so cool when it came to PE and I outplayed every single one of them on the basketball court :P
