This is a question Procrastination

Outlook is a wonderful tool, but not when it keeps reminding you that it is now 96 weeks since you were supposed to finish a report you haven't even started yet.

Just how lazy are you? How long will you put off the essential or the inevitable? What do you fill the time with?

(We're too lazy to write something funny here. You do it.)

Speciation
After reading this QOTW, I was so determined *not* to put off writing a critique for my speciation module, I've handed the thing in a week and a half early!

We have to now submit it again through plagiarism-detecting software too, which I can't do yet because it's not even available.

given the fact...
that most essays will use quotes and references, there will by definition be a lot of content copied from other sources. Unless the software is smart enough to realise that, I would think it's just doing a simple Google-style search looking to match large tracts of the copy word-for-word, or it's a crock of bull designed to bottle out those who have cheated.

As long as your essay is different enough from someone else's (i.e it's not verbatim), you could merely argue that the content was similar because the lectures you went to and the references were read lead all students to the same conclusions....after all, if you put E=MC^2 in a physics essay, they can't call it plaigarism...then again, in today's educational climate, maybe they can?

Guess again.
There should not be content "copied" from anywhere. Any essay consisting entirely of quotations isn't much of an essay. If it's the JISC plagiarism detection software then it's quite good and allows for quoted material. It does miss things though - but trust me, we can tell when you haven't written it yourself.

I used to keep up with all the quotes as I wrote my essays and dissertations
and was always confident that I'd covered all the references.

Wrong!

When I checked I'd always find half a dozen that I'd missed, which would've had me marked down for the P word.

Check, check and check again.

christ
I'm glad this wasn't around when I was at school!
