This is a question Pubs

Jeccy writes, "I've seen people having four-somes, fights involving spastics and genuine retarded people doing karaoke, all thanks to the invention of the common pub."

What's happened in your local then?

Really, though, we're not talking about guns; we're talking about personal protection, and this is where the difference of opinion lies.

You have the pro-gun side stating that everyone has the right to protect themselves, and they shouldn't have to rely on the police to do it for them.

My counter to that is to ask why you have the police at all if that's your view? And if you still support the idea of having a police force, but want to own a gun as backup, why don't you not have a gun and invest the money spent on it instead in providing a police force that CAN respond in time to protect you?

My second counter is that personal protection through gun ownership is a deeply unethical practice; protection comes only to the strongest. The man with the biggest gun wins. And the biggest gun comes to the man with the most money to afford it. I reject outright the notion that safety is a luxury that only those who can afford it should be provided.

But then, that touches on America's hatred of that dirty word "socialism". So it's a lost cause trying to express that view, isn't it?
