Personally, last month a scantily clad young woman confused me with her fiance, with whom I share a first and last name. I'm still not sure she's noticed, but she's going to be mortified when she does.

HmI use it as a way of keeping tabs with friends from uni that I'm no longer that close with, friends who've moved to different countries etc.
It's just nice to see what everybody's been up to with their lives. I'm not doing it out of some need to be seen and to feel popular. You're tarring too many people with the same brush.
