This is a question Tightwads

There's saving money, and there's being tight: saving money at the expense of other people, or simply for the miserly hell of it.

Tell us about measures that go beyond simple belt tightening into the realms of Mr Scrooge.

the tightest tightwads ever?
Well im stunned no-one has mentioned it, but out there is a group of people who would dismember your Granny to get at her gold tooth, they could not give a flying fuck about anything other than coining it for themselves and merrily raping every person on the planet

Step forward please OPEC.

a bigger bunch of thieving cunts you will never ever see, they have a cartel on the most important natural resource on the planet, and if they feel like it, you will bleed

oil was at $140 a barrel only a few months ago and not a whimper from the gansters.

Prices slowly wanders down to a sensible level thats still a damn sight more than it has been in recent history and the fuckers want to turn off the tap and squeeze that last penny from the grounddown bones of humanity.

fuckers, greedy, tightwad fuckers.

And oil still finished down
on the day they made the announcement. It didn't work.

So HA! at OPEC.

And after they did so.........
....prices fell by another $5 that day. OPEC are passengers on the rollercoaster of oil prices as much as you or I.

Besides, have you tried living without oil? Its bloody tricky.

EDIT Beaten to the point.

Our biggest political priority
Should be to become self-sufficient in energy.

We need to invest in solar, wind, tidal energy. Anything that can't be generated that way must be made up from nuclear plants.

It's time we were no longer at the mercy of these countries in the middle-East - most of which hate us anyway.

solar and wind area shit
solar is ok for small scale use for heating water but that's about it

tidal is the way to go, and geothermal and nuclear

Canada has the largest oil reserves in the world
Makes the middle east look like a can of WD40 in comparison.

Mind you it costs a little more to extract, even if you take in to consideration 100 years of armed occupation.

That's fighting talk*
Oil is expensive because it's sold in dollars which, as we all know now, are worthless because basically yanks are shit at math.

* They hung the last f&cker who tried to sell oil in anything other than dollars (euros, and the guy's name was Hussain)

Opec weren't setting the price of oil when it hit $140
The price was driven up by a speculative bubble; there was in fact oversupply to the market from the producers (that's OPEC), but it was all sitting in tankers in the gulf as nobody was willing to buy at that price.

Do keep up.

The world is finally f-cking Opec like it'sbeen f-cking the world.
Even us Merkins have started switching from our 4x4 SUVs that get 12-18mpg (but never leave the road because they might get muddy), to 4 cylinder Toyotas and Hondas.

Gas prices are dropping, but we're not trading back.

So to Russia, Iran, Saudia Arabia, Venezuela, and the rest of you corrupt petrocracies, have fun running your pathetic failed states on half the budget you'd counted on.

Try democracy, entrepreneurship, and educating your citizens. That difference is why Europe and America will get through this financial crisis by tightening the purse-strings a little bit and getting on with it, while you sorry jackasses face social upheaval and chaos.

Dumbasses.
