This is a question My most treasured possession

What's your most treasured possession? What would you rescue from a fire (be it for sentimental or purely financial reasons)?

My Great-Uncle left me his visitors book which along with boring people like the Queen and Harold Wilson has Spike Milligan's signature in it. It's all loopy.

Either that or my Grandfather's swords.

So long as it doesn't happen today...
Until today I would have said my computer.

It contains all the music that I have written over the past 10 years, as well as all the recordings of my band for the last couple of years.

However, having read through pages of people talking about saving their external hard drives; a dim light gradually flickered into being above my bald and shiny head. With the words "external hard drive" buzzing about my brain, I slowly realised that I could back everything up onto one convenient box and not risk losing a (third of a) lifetime's hard work.

Sometimes I wonder how I've made it this far...

Get one,
As soon as you possibly can, you'll not regret it.

It arrived in the post
only this morning... looks as though I'll be busy this evening, but will sleep all the more soundly for it.

Good work!
Just remeber to make regular updated versions.

I've got to the point where I'm worrying if I should make a back-up of my back-up...

The cycle never ends.

you should Kaol
you should have two backup copies of any data. Because the only thing you can guarantee about an external hard drive is that it will fail at some point and take your data with you.

Two backups indeed
AND in separate places, dont have them both stolen/burned in the same disaster

fuck it...
..get THREE.

And store one on the MOON.

It'll be safe there.

Just as I thought I could relax
I will now have to get a back up to the back up; then buy a nuclear bomb proof safe, dig a big hole in my garden and bury the lot...

Too much?

Dear god
Being on b3ta has caused me to reorganise my books into alphabetical order, meet strange people and now it's got me bidding madly on a 120gb external hard drive on Ebay!

It finishes in less than 4 minutes and I think I might win it! Hooray!

*watches nervously*

EDIT: I now own it. In just a few days time I will be able to keep all my stuff safe.
