This is a question My most treasured possession

What's your most treasured possession? What would you rescue from a fire (be it for sentimental or purely financial reasons)?

My Great-Uncle left me his visitors book which along with boring people like the Queen and Harold Wilson has Spike Milligan's signature in it. It's all loopy.

Either that or my Grandfather's swords.

« Go Back

My most treasured possesion are my teeth.
They are one of my few redeeming features and I have teh fear of losing them. Happily they would be in my mouth should a fire start and so would be quick to save.
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 19:30, 145 replies)
Not unless
You'd eaten, like, a million chillies or summat.
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 19:35, closed)
Hmmmm chillies.
I'd put dried chillies on everything if I could.
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 19:37, closed)
Well,
mind you don't set fire to your teeth then.
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 19:39, closed)
I'd be more worried about the other end.
This is why I go easy on them.
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 19:41, closed)
A wise move
But you could keep the loo roll in the fridge.
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 19:43, closed)
You know what they say about
Looking a gift horse in the mouth and all that...

*grabs torch*
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 19:45, closed)
If I was on the loo...
My arms wouldn't be able to reach to the fridge. Unless I get one of those small fridges people use to keep their beer in and put it in teh bathroom. Unfortunately my bathroom is too small even for a small fridge.

Ah well!
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 19:45, closed)
I wish I had good teeth
Mine are squint, filled, crowned, broken, missing or infected with abscesses despite a lifetime of regular brushing and care. I'd let them burn in a fire, but it might be difficult to extract them first...
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 19:47, closed)
Difficult
Is there a window in the bathroom? You could hang the loo roll out of it in the winter, in some sort of waterproof bag arrangement.
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 19:47, closed)
Hm well, I think I'll just go easy on the chillies.
Safest bet all round.
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 19:49, closed)
I'm pretty sure.
If we had a B3ta best teeth competition that I would be in the top 5.
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 19:50, closed)
I'm still young
Enough to have OK teeth.

But they're nothing special.
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 19:51, closed)
Big-Girls-Teeth!
Oh yeah, and how many other b3ta-teeth (b33th?) have you seen?

Mine have got no fillings at all and are lovely.
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 19:52, closed)
@Kaol
Yes, but your speshul is so many other ways : )
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 19:52, closed)
You are young HLT
I am old and still have nice teeth. My gums, however are receding a little : (
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 19:53, closed)
Am I?
Who's been saying what?

*grabs pistol*

*looks around slowly*
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 19:54, closed)
@Kaol
No one has said anything. Your speshulness shines through in all your conversations.
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 19:56, closed)
@ KAol
We all talk about you when you're not here. In fact, we're really looking forward to tomorrow and Friday when you won't be here to hear what we're saying about you.

*sees pistol*

I, however, only ever say nice things about you, like "that Kaol, he's ever so handsome", and all that jazz.
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 19:59, closed)
Oh...
*puts gun away*

*eats dinner*
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 20:02, closed)
Anyone old enough to remember Pam Ayres.
Oh I wish I'd looked after my teeth
And spotted the perils beneath
All that sweet sticky food
That I munched and I chewed
Oh I wish I'd looked after my teeth.

Can't remember the rest.
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 20:03, closed)
Nope!
*shrugs*

Er... I've got a box of teeth actually.
From various animals.
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 20:06, closed)
Ooh!
Pam Ayres is doing a gig here in t'autumn.

Shall I tell her what nice teeth you have, just to annoy her?
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 20:06, closed)
Well you can tell her I'm a fan.
I remember her from my youth and still remember the first line to that poem after all these years.

Give her my regards. : )
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 20:08, closed)
Pam Ayres is still alive?
My god, she must be getting on a bit.
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 20:09, closed)
Erm, ok
Will she know who you are?

Or shall I go for the crazy approach? You know - "Hello Mrs Pam Ayres, my mate, who I know off the interweb and have never met, and who has ace teeth, is a big fan of yours, and really liked that poem you did about teeth."
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 20:09, closed)
Nah!
She must be only 60 years old or so. She was quite young when I saw her originally.

@Kaol - why doesn't that surprise me. Did you take the teeth when the animals were alive or dead.
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 20:11, closed)
@HLT
I think the second approach would be best.

This Valpolicella is going down a treat. I may be slurring my spelling shortly.
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 20:12, closed)
Dead
Every toothed animal I had to dissect for my degree, I took a momento from.

I guess if I killed a person I'd do the same.

It'd be my "thing".
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 20:13, closed)
@Big-Girls-Pam-Teeth-Fan
You're not kidding, there wasn't even a second option!

IT's not wine o'clock where I'm sitting

Although I did share some fictional pink fizzy b3tawine with the Wee Witch earlier

*hic*
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 20:15, closed)
According to Wikipedia
Pam Ayres is 61.

Which means that she was younger than I am now when she used to be on telly in the '70s. Nothing wrong with that, except that I thought she was old then...
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 20:16, closed)
@K2K6
I seem to remember her as not being a dedicated follower of fashion and so may have seemed older than her years.

I do, however, remember her cheeky smile and funny poems.

Jeez! I think I may have had one of her books once.
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 20:18, closed)
Kaol
I have some teeth you can have, from back in my archaeology days. Proper old, they are. Not human though (as we had to save those).
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 20:20, closed)
Didn't she get her big break
on Opportunity Knocks, or something?

I really should know this. I might have to talk to her.
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 20:21, closed)
I'm sure
my mum had a book of hers. She dressed much like Pam Ayres as well. Didn't have the same hair-do though.
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 20:21, closed)
@ BGB
I'm not exactly a dedicated follower of fashion either.

*feels old*

I also have a CD of hers on my iPod. In my defence, it's ripped from an original belonging to my boss. I didn't buy it!

*kicks self for inadvertently admitting to copyright fraud*
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 20:21, closed)
HEre's an idea
When I meet Pam in the autumn, shall I tell her she has got a mad random interweb following involving all of you?
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 20:24, closed)
@K2K6.....sorry, put wrong name there for a moment.
I'm not exactly a fashionista either. I've dressed like a 14 year old boy since I was a 14 year old girl.
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 20:26, closed)
@ hlt
for all we know, she's a B3tard. Probably planning a poetic revenge on us for dissing her dress sense.
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 20:26, closed)
@HLT
Yay! we must spread the word. I should find more of her poems to remember really.

*Has task for wet weekend*
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 20:27, closed)
Oh no! Pam Ayres, a b3tan?!
NEver!

Unless... frankspencer, are you really Pam Ayres?
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 20:27, closed)
@BGB
I'm replying to that anyway.

I'd agree...

*is wearing a Cure t shirt and black (non-emo-tight) jeans*
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 20:29, closed)
@BGB
I have got a VERY odd picture of you in my head now. All sort of boyish and toothy.

I'm sure you're very pretty really.
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 20:32, closed)
The fashion police have given up arresting me
right now I'm wearing a pair of "ripped off at the knee" jeans masquerading as shorts and a t-shirt I've had since the last century.
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 20:34, closed)
@HLT
I don't look like a boy - big boobs - but I dress like one. I am however getting more girly in my forties. I have a push up bra and blouses.
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 20:35, closed)
I feel rather overdressed now
As I am wearing, amongst other things, a posh scarf, very well-cut trousers (so I don't look as wide as I actually am), lots of make-up, and a rather nice linen jacket.

*slaps self for being poncy artsy type*
*will change into scruffy jeans and rugby top when I get home though*
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 20:37, closed)
@BGB
Thank god for push-up bras. In fact, thank god, and all his angels, cherubim and seraphim, pixies, minions, kittens and wizards, for bras, full stop.
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 20:38, closed)
@HLT
We'll let you off - I have to wear a suit at work. Well, trousers and a jacket, both black. And a black top. I'm in mourning for the loss of my self respect and hopes for the future.

*goes off to update CV*
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 20:39, closed)
@ Wee Witch
Oh, why?
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 20:40, closed)
not having to wear a suit to work is a pleasure
particularly as my office is situated amongst financial advisors, accountants and bankers

they must despair of us engineers with our scruffy clothes and crap cars
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 20:41, closed)
I can kinda wear what I want for work
It's one of the perks.

Normally it's jeans, black t shirt and leather jacket.

Too hot for leather at the moment though.
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 20:43, closed)
@HLT
I've actively hated this job for about two years now, but the pay's helluva good and really hard to walk away from. Plus I basically set my own hours (provided I do the right number per week) which works well with the kids etc.

I can do banking, pensions, admin type jobs (even segued into marketing for a while) but really have to start looking for another job while I still have my sanity. Well some of it.
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 20:43, closed)
I usually go for a shirt
just to differentiate from being at home

it's the sort of place that a tie begs the question "going for an interview?"
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 20:44, closed)
I have two modes of dress at my work.
Jeans and tee-shirt for summer.
Jeans and sweatshirt for winter.

Shorts if the weather is ridiculous.
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 20:47, closed)
I once got a mild reprimand for wearing shorts
despite the fact that at the time I was working on the beach in July...
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 20:48, closed)
@ Wee Witch
That sucks. IS it the job itself or the people?

Get out, get out while you can!

*wishes luck*
let us know how you get on
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 20:48, closed)
@BGB
any jobs going? Jeans to work ..

*goes off into fantasy of wearing jeans every day*

EDIT: HLT - New management - cut the number of staff (natural wastage) but increase the amount of work.
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 20:49, closed)
@ Vipros
Last time I wore a tie they asked if I had a court date :|

I've never been to court.

Honestly!
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 20:49, closed)
I wonder
what Pam Ayres wears to work?
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 20:49, closed)
@Kaol
now why don't I believe that....
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 20:49, closed)
oh dear
Oh I wish I could wear me t-shirt and jeans
And not have to dress like I'm meeting the Queen
I wish I could be the big scruff that I am
But I can't cos I'm reading me poems - I'm Pam!
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 20:51, closed)
They'll never catch me!
*burns off fingerprints*
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 20:52, closed)
you lot
Don't seem to believe a word Kaol ever says!

*defends*
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 20:52, closed)
I work in a shitty engineering firm.
When I say shitty I mean dirty. No point getting dressed up. Even though I'm in the office I still get dirt on me.

I also have to dog sit sometimes and so dog hairs are a bonus.
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 20:52, closed)
just substitute your prints for that of a koala
they are almost indistinguishable after all!

edit: and you could substitute your name for Koala too while you are at it!
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 20:52, closed)
Get a job in a creative media industry
you can wear whatever you like.
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 20:56, closed)
Maybe...
I've never been to court though, honestly.
Never been arrested.

I get stopped and searched often though.
Guess I look dodgy.
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 20:56, closed)
I've never even been stopped and searched
which surprises me given the beard and stuff

but it is a good thing definitely!
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 20:58, closed)
I've been to court
but only as a potential juror. I didn't get picked. Maybe it was my "Hang them all and let god decide" t-shirt?
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 20:59, closed)
Hmmm...
Dunno, guess I hang around in the wrong circles...
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 21:01, closed)
hmm could be it
I tend to hang around in shapes of more then 4 sides...
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 21:02, closed)
I'm going home
So I will catch you all tomorrow afternoon.

bye!
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 21:02, closed)
In a company staffed entirely by b3tans
we can wear whatever we want ... except on Thursdays.

I don't know about that, the forecast is rain here tomorrow ....
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 21:11, closed)
Of course ...
Duh!

Not too sure about naked Thursdays. I have body issues.
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 21:12, closed)
I have them too.
Running out of space under the patio.
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 21:13, closed)
not sure the clients I'm on site with

one of my prized possessions

that took far too many attempts. it's been an awfully long time since I did even basic html
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 21:20, closed)
^Ooooooo!
Very nice.

All it needs is some lego viking people in it.
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 21:22, closed)

is that some kind of pig beside it?

Either the ship's really small or the pig's really big ....
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 21:22, closed)
Amazing!
Really impressed!
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 21:22, closed)
the ship is about 2 feet long
made by my dad

the pig is one of the old natwest money boxes. used to have them all (worth something) but they got broken when we moved to Devon so now I have two (worth nothing)

bastards

lego people might be a tad too small

They could be midget vikings.
Could work!
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 21:26, closed)
@Vipros
the wee characters from the "Animal Hospital" toys might fit - you get blokes and girls and they're all blonde (so in my mind, blonde = Viking)
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 21:26, closed)
do you get Rolf Harris?
I think that they'd have to be some pretty cool looking toys to do justice to my ship :-)
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 21:27, closed)
Nah, no Rolf I'm afraid
but you can have a boat, plane, helicopter, jeep, moped, you name it. But no Rolf. Lots of little pieces that disappear into the hoover ...

I just
killed 3 policemen,
2 homeless men,
5 hookers
and a pidgeon.

that's a shame
I think perhaps the Technic lego people might work in the ship...maybe I'll give it a try some time...

right, I'm off

night all

Edit: @Kaol: you can kill pigeons in GTA4?

man, I need to get that
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 21:32, closed)
Night,
Have fun.

EDIT: Yeah, they replaced the hidden packages.
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 21:33, closed)
I'm off too.
Going to read and then drift off thinking rude thoughts.

night all

It's nearly 10 pm
Time for bed.

I think we've all done very well this week.

We've managed to (mostly) stay on topic and the punnage has been quite low key.

Ten points to everyone.

Hmmm...
Yeah...

So... Er... You come here often?
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 21:53, closed)
Only on Wednesdays
At 4.
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 21:55, closed)
Haha!
Me too.

Coincidence?
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 21:56, closed)
Coincidence...maybe
But more likely a conspiracy.

To ensure the b3tan population are busy at 4 on a Wednesday and therefore can't take over the world with kittens and giant CDCs.

Maybe...
I'm not too sure, I can be as fierce as a swarm of hornets, or as gentle as a freshly-tumble-dried lamb....

I should keep that to yourself
I mean....if thousands of people should find that out about you...you know, if it was posted publicly on a well known and highly respected internet site.....it could mean the end of your reputation as a lothario around here.

Just saying, mind.
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 22:03, closed)
Er...
I have a "reputation as a lothario around here"?

Hmmm... *edits*

But I'll still know.

I can be paid off however.

Oooooo! Marzipan!
I like marzipan!

Marzipan animals. That'll do.

I'll have two dozen and then I'll be sick in mistaspakkaman's suit of armour - the one with HLT's ghost in it.

I'll collect tomorrow because I'm tired now and going to shut my eyes. In bed.

dear god, this is a strange place sometimes

EDIT - @CHCB - once upon a time I used to read and even sometimes watch television. Now that they've introduced the reply button on qotw my life is no longer my own.

Sorry to hear about your exam earlier.

Dr. Kaol prescribes you 100CCs of vodka.
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 22:22, closed)
Ah, I'll get over it
Time to concentrate on the next two exams now, got a week and a day until the next though.

As for the vodka, I have retreated to proper home now, with parents and the like, and no vodka that I know of. Perhaps some whiskey though. And much wine.
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 22:25, closed)
@Penguin
He's not a real doctor!
I am. Though, fair enough, not a medical one. Still, I prescribe some of my valium. Actually, no. I don't want to part with it.
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 22:26, closed)
I know
How animals work, and people are animals!

I was going to get a fake medical degree from Russia at one point, but the prison sentence here for that kind of thing is a bit too long.
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 22:27, closed)
Can I be a doctor?
I think it would sound good.

How about just some sleep? Or possibly wiring up my ps2 and playing Test Drive late into the night.

Oh the possibilities.

~~edit~~

Why don't you just train as an actual doctor?
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 22:28, closed)
yeah, Kaol
a gynaecologist.
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 22:30, closed)
Money
And I can't do chemistry.
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 22:34, closed)
I can't do chemistry either
Or biology for that matter. Would really make a rubbish doctor.

i wouldn't know where anything was meant to be.
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 22:41, closed)
I love biology
Without it I wouldn't be able to function my meats.
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 22:45, closed)
Hmm
Inuendo?
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 22:51, closed)
Erm...
No... FACT!
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 22:56, closed)
I believe you
Wholeheartedly I do.

I never liked biology.

Physics is the way to go; it's the design-engineer-in-training's friend.
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 22:59, closed)
I did
Physics A-Level.
I liked the quantum stuff.
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 23:02, closed)
Excuse my ignorance
But what does A-levels equate to in Scottish levels?

Higher? Advanced Higher?

I never got to do quantum at higher.
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 23:04, closed)
Advanced Highers
So like... 18.

I did a radio show about time travel once, that was cool.
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 23:09, closed)
My facebook profile
lists my only interest as Time Travel.
(, Wed 14 May 2008, 23:10, closed)
Awesome
In 2nd year uni I did a first year physics elective, covered things like doppler effect and all that jazz, and some funky guy who put cats in boxes and killed them.

Or did he?

Nobody knows.

How'd last nights potentially disastrous dinner date go?

evening all
to save me trawling back through threads, can you tell me what colour captain pingu's hat is PoD.

I am expanding the last fwupper to include more peeps. I'm not sure how best to capture Big Girls Blouse in a pictorial format. Suggestions?

Disasterously.
She freaked out that I had to keep live insects to feed my lizard.

"can't you give her dead ones"

Silly girl.

You don't need to dumb down Shroedinger for me :p

For you?
Who said I was dumbing it down for you?

Part of me is surprised that isn't how they taught it.

And yes, I surely can. His hat is black, and beanie like, just like mine.

Oh...
Am I late? I got a bit held up by another thread...

Would that have been
The thread that involved drinking much of the wine, perchance?

Possibly
and a couple more...

*is slightly hungover*

Ah well
I was also pretty monumentally late to the party, stupid having to go on trains. Trains should have the internet.

This may interest you; I saw an advert for a 3 foot high remote control Dalek t'other day. Do you have one? Think it would be a wise investment?

I have seen them
but I don't have one. Yet. At around £100 a pop, I think I would have my knackers cut off courtesy of the sweary one.

Plus, we are seriously running out of space...

I considered getting one
Just for novelty sake, but space would be the main issue for me.

Moving out of flat over summer = compressing 2 rooms worth of stuff into 1 room.

It may not work.

Should have stayed here
Ever since HLT's ghosties have posessed my suit of armour, it's been keeping me up all night with its noisy breakdancing antics. Previously, it only used to scare the bejezus out of my guests but it never made any noise. Hopefully, chickenlady being sick in it will calm them down.

^^^^^^This in spades!
I had to step away from the internet in order to do some work.

Fortunately it took me less than an hour to write the article...if only I could always harness my abilities like that, I'd be bloody poet laureate within the week. As it is my inherent laziness prevents me from doing anything much apart from clicking Reply.
