I had a scholarship (all fees + 8k for beer) which put me slap-bang in the middle of the 'daddy's paying for this' and 'I'm working my tits off just to turn up' cliques.

The monied fuckers came dead last in terms of results, because they didn't care. The people who were actually paying for it did rather better, on the whole, as they had a much higher personal investment and consequently put in much more effort.

I'd like to think that the distinctions earned by the worker-types led them on to greater and better things than the money crowd - sadly, what with nepotism being alive and well, I suspect the latter simply went on to take up jobs in daddy's company.

i was having a jolly laugh the other day though at someone applying for jobs.

they have never had a part time job before, let alone a bar job because their parents paid for everything.

they handed out 4 CVs.

they started applying AFTER fresher's week in sheffield, one of the cities mostly densely populated by student folk, because they were too lazy.

they are strangely optimistic. many a conversation has involved "how you doing atm?" "oh, just trying to make the most of my free before i get a job..." well, that'll be some months then

the joke is still on me though because they have several grand in their bank account and how much do i have? ah yes. minus several grand.

I have one of these in my uni class.
Me: "I'm starting to panic now, has your loan come through yet?"

Him: "Loan?"

Also told me he's not worried about makng an arse of things because he's been promised his mum's business to run.

If the little bugger wasn't so cheery and likeable (most of the time) I'd almost regret practically doing his diploma for him earlier this year.
