This is a question Failed Projects

You start off with the best of intentions, but through raging incompetence, ineptitude or the plain fact that you're working in IT, things go terribly wrong and there's hell to pay. Tell us about the epic failures that have brought big ideas to their knees. Or just blame someone else.

Warhammer
I like a bit of the old toysoldier pushing that is tabletop wargaming. I can say this confortably despite the collosal nerdiness of it, because you're all far far worse than me. Anyway, i love the modelling and painting side of things, and start endless projects that never get finished. I've spent countless thousands of £'s over the last 20 years... and currently have no more than about 30-40 finished models.

Anyone ever involved in any similar hobby can probably empathise. I've just tons and tons of plastic and pewter crap everywhere, all useless and building up year by year. A massive graveyard of failed projects. Fuck hobbies, fuck em in the ass.

You see
lots of figures on eBay, "most assembled, in various stages of painting."

I used to dabble in this....
....as a youngster. I must have bought and wasted approximately one shit load of Milliput in my time without so much as a modified gretchin to show for it.

Having managed a certain high street tabletop wargaming shop (for my sins, long, long, long time ago)...
I can honestly say its just not right to flog this stuff for so fucking much when it costs so very little to produce. The markup on this shit is unbelievable. Two words: Daylight. Robbery.

I hear ya brother!
Let's see:
Every ruleboook for 40k since the days of Rogue Trader? Check.

250+ Space Marines? Check.

Less than 25% of that 250+ painted? Check.

Every boxed game since original Space Hulk? Check.

Games played since leaving School in 1995? 2. That's two actual games, not two types of game...

Warhammer Fantasy figures owned? Ohhh, 300+

Average cost of a figure? About £4

Paints? Ohhh, yes - every type made by GW and a full set of Vallejo paints for my non-GW minis.

Scenery? tons - all hand-made. Including a four-foot crashed Eldar ship modelled inside and out, and a part-built city for Warhammer/Mordheim. Remember: TWO games in ten years...

Then we get on to the Rackham miniatures, the rulesets, the random miniatures bought because they'd be interesting to paint, etc.

I've got a 20" by 15" studio and I can barely move for a hobby that has resulted in:

An average of 0.13 games per year, an investment of, roughly, £3000 and an addiction to the sorts of hobby shops that smell of Oxy Cleanser, poor hygiene and hormones in order to buy things that, statistically are not likely to be used until I am approaching retirement.

Worthwhile? I'm gonna say yes...

Since 1995
Makes 2 games in 15 years not 10, sorry.

My ex husband had loads of these
when I left the house, I was so relieved to not be surrounded by the those stupid plastic and lead things

Stupid?
Pah, only if you're over the age of 8.

Oh, right...

Still, I've only got one army. And a small backup one, just in case. And some Soul Drinkers I made because I liked the book. And a Grey Knight.

Oh, and a squad of Imperial Guard I got sent by mistake and was allowed to keep.

I have talked to girls, though.

Honest.
