# I used to live in a haunted house
My old house in Chicago had a ghost. The house was built in 1870 and I think it was the ghost of a child because the things that happened were always playful. The lights on the third floor in the playroom would turn on and off while the my children were playing in there -- it go so the babysitter refused to go to the third floor. Doors throughout the house would open or close on their own and toys would suddenly turn on or move across the floor. Once my sister was visiting with her children she decided to take a nap in the guest room. She was awakened by the bed bouncing up and down and thought it was her son, so she said, 'Stop it, Alex,' but when she rolled over she was alone in the room. Everyone who slept in that room told us the bed sometimes bounced up and down as if a child were jumping on it. My kids got used to it and when someone was over and a building block suddenly moved across the floor towards a visitor, they would say, 'Oh, the ghost wants to play with you.' We used to leave the front door unlocked so we didn't have to use a key and one day, unbeknownst to me, the button in the door had been pushed so it would lock. I was alone in the house and as I headed to the front door, a skeleton key flew out from a door to the dining room and landed at my feet, about 5 feet from the door. I put it back and only realized the ghost was trying to tell me something about a key when I got home later that day and was locked out. Eventually the ghost went away on its own, but I wish it hadn't.
