# i have lots of ghosts.
when i'm home from uni for the holidays, i live with my parents in a house that's over a hundred years old. it's in kent by the seaside (okay, so its the thames estuary, but far enough out to look like the sea).

my parents have always sworn the house was haunted since my grandmother came over when we were about three, and told my mum we were out of bed at about midnight. mum said that wasn't possible, because we were sound-o five minutes earlier but nan insisted that she'd heard footsteps. neither me nor my sister were awake and there wasn't anyone else in the house apart from my dad, who was with my mum and nan at the time.

anyway, since i was about six i've had an 'imaginary friend', apart from she wasn't all that imaginary. as in, she had a proper name *that she told me*, Louisa, and she throws things (and is quite accurate, and painful). she lived in my room when i was a kid, but when i moved rooms and my little sister took the room over Louisa stopped being my friend any more, and started being my little sister's friend instead.
She throws pennies, pencil sharpeners, anything she can find. if you're looking for something and you know where it was, it won't be there any more. then it shows up somewhere obvious when you ask Louisa to give it back. like the instructions for the new thermostat, showed up UNFOLDED ACROSS THE DESK, where we DEFINITELY would have noticed them, a week after we'd been looking for them. sometimes Lou Lou is a complete bitch though, she hid my radiohead cd :( she really doesn't like radiohead.

also present in the house is an older lady. one halloween my friend was around our house, upstairs in my sister's bedroom, and i came downstairs to get some crisps for us. as i was walking down the stairs i saw a woman walk STRAIGHT THROUGH the dining room door, through the hall and STRAIGHT THROUGH the front door (118) without opening any of them. i bricked it and legged it back up the stairs and turned into a gibbering wreck.

you can also glimpse the old lady in the bath when you are looking at the mirror, but you can never be quite sure... and i get shivers just outside the doorway to my parent's bedroom.

something also frequently shakes my bed quite violently while i am trying to sleep, once something that wasn't there tried to drown me in the bath, and the cat walks around the corridors and jumps on my bed, and 'sleeps' on top of me. did i mention, we don't have any pets.

finally you can hear singing if you listen to the pipes when you're taking a bath, it's definitely a kid singing, and quite sweet. my sister says that louisa drew a girl on her wall but it's not there any more so nobody can prove it.

all the same its a bit scary to be in my house sometimes.

my cousin's long-term boyfriend went to stay in my aunt's (again very old) house once, and he went into the other bedroom (my other cousin's old room, doesn't live there any more though, they're all moved out).

he says he saw a man hanging (as in dead) from the rafters in the room.

you've never seen him move so quickly away from something.

oh, and i saw a white lady who was distinctly seethrough walking around at my (catholic) primary school, and a nun haunted the picture of the turin shroud that we kept there.

and a psychic told my mum my grandad was sending her something like a white rose and a horse, and it was incredibly appropriate. also my sister smelt cigarette smoke and hair wax in her room at home a few months ago, and grandad stopped smoking and using that kind of hair wax about ten years before abi was born... ie, about twenty years before he died. ten years ago.

wow, i didn't realise i believed in the paranormal before.

ps also casper the friendly ghost.

# I go to a catholic grammar school in slough
About six months ago I was walking down the main school corridor in the very very old convent building towards the new hall at about 9 at night (I was there waiting for the audience and cast to arrive for the school play which I was in also).
It was very dark and there was only a light on down the other end of the corridor, and I've never needed to know where the light switch was so I couldn't find it.

I reach the other end of the corridor, just as usual, perfectly happy, but a bit nervous about the forecoming play. Just as a reach the door I hear footsteps and turn around, where I see one of the many nuns who live in our school in the convent part walking down the corridor in the opposite direction.

I didn't think anything of it, because although I hadn't seen her before, some of the nuns didn't like to go into the main part of the school, as the kids are pretty obnoxious really. However, when I then saw her again on a picture from 1897 looking exactly as she did when I saw her 2 weeks previously.

# my mate
lives in this very old house. she tells me the walls are made of horse shit and straw, but thats beside the point. she tells me they're haunted by a young boy, and a lady in her twenties. one night she was laying in bed and one of them began to tickle her feet. while she first found this amusing, she soon became annoyed and told it to go away. the tickling stopped, as her mother happened to be walking down the stairs. my mate then heard the sound of her mother falling down said stairs! luckily she was on the bottom step so no harm was done, but still nasty. kind of a skizophrenic ghost, to go from tickling someones feet to shoving someone down the stairs! still, what can you expect from a house made of shit and straw? (and some bricks/beams i'd imagine......)
