a better word would be'recaputres' energy from petrol that has already been burned getting a car upto a certain speed and what is the purpose of a car if not, after getting up to a speed, to eventually slow down and stop to let the people it is carrying disembark? I for one have never gotten into a car which then doesn't slow down to a stop at some point, converting kinetic energy into thermal energy in it's brake pads.
