Theory about classical singing and warbly vibrato
Vibrato in certain acoustics carries your musical message farther, and more generously.
Classical musicians have taken so long to adjust to the recording studio microphone - as long as stage actors have taken to adapt to the lens.
I can’t stand the warbles - the repertoire originally was intended for intimate small audiences, but grew for multiple reasons. I like to imagine Schubert’s original evenings sung by proficient amateurs with purity and meaning. Minus the technical necessities of yore.
I dunno - Sting or Elkie Brooks/Barbara Streisand/Diana Krall/ David Gilmour

The horrible Hyacinth Bucket opera style was a pompous nightmare. My old singing teacher said that Italian school was less horrific and natural which presumably means that this warble style is NOT necessary for projection. I mean the sound of babies crying is (supposedly) designed to be heard. What a fucking awful sound.
Not convinced. Opera is utterly awful.

I can tolerate (and I mean tolerate!) this style
Where to my ear the note sits at the correct pitch for a significant percentage of the time, and makes periodic deviations away from it, in this case it sounds like it's slightly higher.
What I can't bear is when the note wavers both above and below the correct pitch without staying on it for any period of time. The overwhelming impression is that the singer can't hold the note so they're compensating by wavering about somewhere near it, going both sharp and flat.

Doesn’t bother me.
Then again it’s nothing compared to the warble you hear, usually in adverts*, when the singer is trying to sing more softly than they’re able to and just sounds breathy and insipid.
*Like whichever one it is doing the rounds with that man butchering Burt Bacharach.

I like classical singing and opera
didn't always (preferred choral singing), but now I can listen to hours of it
vibrato can be good or bad
would be surprised if recordings of Schubert by non-classical singers aren't difficult to find
