Parents
"They fuck you up, your mum and dad" said Philip Larkin. Did he have a point? Perhaps yours are merely horrendously embarrassing? Or are you yourself that embarrassing or terrible parent? No tedious McCannery or nonce strikethroughs please, ffs.

The move to San Diego
My dad was getting restless, so decided to move the family to San Diego. The business of getting work in San Diego seemed complicated, but he had a friend there he trusted to do the leg work of getting employed. So, he didn't worry about that at all. It was covered.
We made the move! We showed up at my dad's friend's house. He brought out a stack of employment application forms. My dad said, "No, you don't understand, we've spent all our money. I need to go to work immediately." My dad's friend explained he couldn't be expected to do more than preliminary scouting. He had a point.
Such a pleasant city to be homeless.
